Employment Services

In partnership with North Hills Community Outreach and Jewish Family & Community Services, SHIM provides career help to Allegheny County residents through the United Way funded program WorkABLE. We’ll help you navigate a path towards fulfilling employment.

Financial Assistance

SHIM offers a wide array of financial assistance programs, including emergency hardship grants, transportation aid,  and tax help. Our wraparound services help individuals and families solve problems and regain economic stability.

Utility Assistance

SHIM can help you pay down utility bills thanks to local partnerships. Find out if you qualify for an emergency hardship grant through the Dollar Energy Fund, or if other programs can help you manage your gas, water, electric and sewage bills.

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) is open yearly from November-March to assist with heating bills. Apply online at https://www.compass.state.pa.us/compass.web/Public/CMPHome.

You can now apply or check your eligibility for several Dollar Energy Fund programs online at https://www.hardshiptools.org/MyApp/.

Emergency Rental Assistance

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) ended on March 31, 2022. As a result, SHIM is no longer able to assist with this program.

For assistance with previously submitted ERAP applications, please contact Action Housing at 412-248-0021 or email rentalassistance@actionhousing.org.

Due to high participation in the program, response time for a call back is 7-10 days. You should expect a response to your email within 5 days.
