[This is a repost of an earlier news item, so if it seems familiar, that’s why.] The deadline for submitting artwork for the 2013-2014 school directory is June 14th, 2013. You can draw anything, but we are especially interested in two themes: “panther town” and “super panther.”
The “panther town” theme would be something drawn in the style of Richard Scarry (please refer to What Do People Do All Day? or Busy, Busy Town). Here are two samples of his style: ship innards, aerial view of town. The idea is to capture the diversity of things that go on in and around the school. The “super panther” theme is fairly self-explanatory — just get a panther equipped with a cape or costume, and have him/her/them do something super (academically, athletically, socially … or all of the above, all at once).
If your kid is artistically challenged, start them off early with a Google search for “How to draw a panther.” Illustration should be black and white (grayscale is fine) and approximately 7.5 x 10″. Computer drawings are completely fine if you happen to have a drawing stylus at home. No need to put “Strath Haven Middle School Directory 2013-2014” on it — we’ll do that after we scan the winning submission. Please submit your original drawing to Diane Hannum at the Main Office — she will put it in the Home and School box. Direct questions or digital submissions to Colin Purrington, the Directory Editor.
NOTE: “Panther” is another name for cougar and mountain lion. Cougars (Puma concolor) were once found locally, but are now just in the west and at the southernmost tip of Florida. They are occasionally all black (due to rare mutations). The cubs are adorable; see photo (copyright Odd Andersen) for proof.
